Purpose
The Data Analyst contributes to the overall success of the Goal Planning and Performance Department in Canada taking effective ownership on various reporting/ad-hoc requests and helps to generate value-added actionable insights pertaining to specific individual goals, plans, initiatives in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Goal Planning and Performance is responsible for providing high impact analysis to support decisions focused on driving Canadian Retail bank success. The Data Analyst, Goal Planning & Performance, will play a key role in expanding our reporting framework and improving our analytical processes. Improved analysis and reporting, driven primarily by initiatives contributed by this role, will be a critical part of supporting the bank's focus on both performance and customer.
Key Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
- Design and create reports, using data to analyze and improve our understanding of branch staff and customer behaviour, and monitoring the impact of strategic decisions and initiatives
- Design and develop new reports to support management including but not limited to - visualization tools such as Tableau & PowerBI, complex data and logic tools, SAS, SQL, and self-service dashboards
- Analyze data and evaluate results, identify emerging business issues, and prepare recommendations for management
- Continuously acquire and enhance knowledge of business/product strategies, portfolio management principles, branch processes and procedures, regulatory requirements, and advanced analytical tools/methodologies in order to best provide business solutions
- Validate data extraction to ensure accuracy and accountability of reporting and insights
- Work closely with other Goal Planning and Performance employees to support our goal planning, reporting, and business intelligence processes
- Automate and increase efficiencies on data extraction, transformation and reporting processes
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Champions a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team
Requirements
- Required - University degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Database Marketing, Finance, Computer Science, Business Management or a related discipline
- Excellent mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex data and conclude meaningful insights
- Self-starter, with the ability to work well both independently and with teams and must be comfortable working in an environment with tight deadlines and multiple priorities
- Expertise and experience in SAS and/or SQL
- Python and/or R experience an asset
- Analytical, modelling, and automation experience an asset
- Expertise in data visualization tools including Tableau/PowerBI an asset
- Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking skills
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) is essential
- Understanding of Canadian retail banking
- Strong Excel skills
- Flexible, motivated, and results oriented
