University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Research Associate II in our UHN Biospecimen Services and Prostate and Uro-Oncology Clinical Research Unit.

The UHN Biospecimen Services department is looking for a Biospecimen Research Associate to be part of our team. UHN Biospecimen Services includes the McCain GU Biobank (MGB), the Princess Margaret Cancer Biobank (PMCB) and the UHN COVID-19 Biobank. Our Program processes and stores research samples from patients with cancer, infectious and other diseases including COVID-19 or those who are undergoing organ transplantation. The biospecimens are used by world-class medical researchers at University Health Network (Canada's largest academic hospital system), as well as by global scientific collaborators.

The Prostate and Uro-Oncology Clinical Research Unit assumes responsibility for the overall management and coordination of Industry and Investigator-driven studies focusing on bladder, kidney and prostate cancer and urologic cancer risk reduction for the Department of Surgical Oncology (Urology). We conduct interventional, biomarker development and QoL studies and act as Lead Coordinating Site for several Canadian and US multicenter trials.

Working under the direction of the Head of Operations, the successful candidate will use their past experience in clinical research to:

  • Participate partially or fully in protocol development/project design, setting of research goals, selection and development of procedures
  • Plan, implement and coordinate all aspects of data collection
  • Utilize study findings in the development and writing of grant proposals for new research activities
  • Prepare budgets for grant applications
  • Allocate, monitor and track grant funding expenses
  • Assist in interpretation of results and preparation of material for presentation, publication, and/or grants
  • Critically appraise manuscripts and proposals of investigator
  • Present reports at scientific conferences and seminars
  • Participate in departmental, institutional or international seminars
  • Assess literature in the field of study
  • Contribute to team in-service sessions
  • Play an active role in biobanking or clinical research conference planning
  • Mentor and functionally supervise research trainees, when applicable
  • Perform study-related administrative tasks, where applicable

This position requires an action-oriented individual with advanced research knowledge and skills, strong organizational experience, superior time management capabilities, demonstrated problem solving capacity, and advanced writing and communication skills. The ideal candidate possesses the aptitude to work with individuals from program departments as well as external stakeholders to achieve biobanking and/or clinical research study objectives and goals. They maintain an eye for detail and the ability to initiate the follow up on items or determine appropriate steps for timely resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At minimum, a completion of Master's degree in Health or Science Related Discipline
  • A minimum of seven (7) years experience in clinical trials, regulatory affairs, or research related project management (oncology experience an asset)
  • Proven skills in data management
  • Solid knowledge of preparing grant budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization and prioritization skills, good computer skills, ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Project management certification preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks while adhering to timelines
  • Ability to work well both as a member of a team and independently
  • Ability in the realm of COVID-19 to work effectively from a home office, if required
